CHAPTER 165.

AN ACT to define the boundary line between
Dorchester and Somerset counties.

Commission-
ers appoint
to run and de-
fine boundary.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Thos. J. Lee, the commissioner
upon the question of boundary between Maryland
and Virginia, George Winthrop, of Dorchester
county, and Levin T. H. Irving, of Somerset county,
be and they are hereby appointed commissioners,
to run and define the boundary line between Dor-
chester and Somerset counties, according to the
original limits thereof.

Meeting.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners shall meet at the town of Princess Ann, in
Somerset county, on the sixteenth day of April
next, or as soon thereafter as may be practicable,
not exceeding thirty days, and the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, when thus assem-
bled, shall proceed to discharge the duties enjoined
upon them by the provisions of this act, they having
first taken an oath, to be administered to them, by
a justice of the peace for Dorchester or Somerset
county, faithfully and impartially to locate and es-
tablish the said line in such manner as they, or a
majority of them, shall think right and proper.

Vacancies—
new filled.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if either of the
said commissioners shall die before this act is car-
ried into effect, or shall refuse to act in accordance

with the provisions thereof, the county commission-
ers of the county in which such commissioner is
resident, shall immediately fill such vacancy, or if
the said Thomas J. Lee should so die or refuse to
act, the Governor of this State. shall fill such
vacancy.

Duty of com-
missioners.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said com-
missioners may appoint a surveyor, chain carriers,
and such other persons as they may deem necessary,
and shall allow them such compensation as they
may deem reasonable, and they shall carefully as-
certain, mark, and bound the aforesaid boundary
line, and shall make a complete and correct map
thereof, and shall deposit the original in the office
of the commissioner of the Land office, and copies
thereof in the office of the clerks of the said several
counties of Dorchester and Somerset, and the said
