dollars for every such offence, recoverable by said
board of police by civil action in the name of the
State, and likewise to imprisonment for not less
than sixty days, upon conviction thereof in any

vided, however, that nothing contained in this
article shall be construed to impair or destroy the
authority of the said board of police, under the
provisions of this article, constituting the same and
prescribing their powers and duties, and especially
under the provisions of this article authorizing
them to control and command all conservators of
the peace on the occasion and in the manner therein
provided.

Proviso.

SEC. 14. The said board of police shall likewise
appoint for every election two clerks for each elec-
tion precinct, who shall respectively discharge the
duties by law belonging or hereafter to be assigned

dollars per diem each for their services as such; the
said judges of election shall receive two dollars for
their services; the compensation of such judges
and clerks and all expenses to be incurred by the
said judges under this article or otherwise accord-
ing to law, as well as all expenses to be. incurred
by said board of police, in the division of the wards
into precincts as aforesaid, and in recording and
publishing the same, or otherwise under this article,
or in the execution thereof, to be paid by and re-
coverable from the Mayor and City Council of Bal-
timore, and to be provided for by said Mayor and
Council by taxation or otherwise.

SEC. 15. Each of the said judges and clerks as
soon as may be after his appointment, and before
proceeding to act at any election, shall take the
general oath prescribed by the fourth section of the
first article of the Constitution, and also the oath
prescribed by the thirty-fifth article of the Code of
General Laws, for judges and clerks respectively,
and shall likewise make oath well and faithfully to
discharge the duties by this article imposed on him
or which may be assigned to him during his official
term by law, the said oaths to be administered by
the board of police aforesaid, signed by the parties
making the same, and recorded among the proceed-
ings of said board, or in case of exigency, to be
administered by any justice of the peace, who shall
