CHAP. 98

require him to give bond for the faithful perform-
ance of the duties of his office.

Construction

25. Nothing in this article shall be construed to
release the bond of the treasurer or sheriff of
Howard county from liability for any duties or re-
sponsibility heretofore imposed upon them by law.

In force.

26. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after, the thirty-first day of March,
eighteen hundred and sixty.

CHAPTER 98.

AN ACT to Incorporate the Brooklyn Company.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Josias Pennington, Augustus
C. Peacht, William S. Rayner, Charles W. Spilck-
er, George H. Spilcker, Charles Spilcker,
Werner Dresel, John D. Kremelberg, William
C. Pennington, Charles Caspari, William Caspari,
Otto H. Berg, Emil Hirschfeld, William W. Ken-
nedy and William George Read, and all other per-
sons hereafter becoming members of the Brooklyn
company, in the manner hereinafter mentioned,
their successors and assigns, be, and they are here-
by, created and made a corporation and body poli-
tic, by the name of the Brooklyn company, and by
that name shall and may have perpetual succession,
and be capable in law of purchasing, holding, im-
proving and disposing of property, real, personal,
or mixed, to the extent, in the manner, and for the
purposes herein authorised, and may sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and defend
and be answered and defended in all courts of law
and equity, and may receive and make all deeds,
transfers, instruments of writing, covenants, grants,
contracts, agreements and bargains whatsoever ne-
cessary for the said purposes, and may have and
use a common seal, which they shall have power to
renew or alter at pleasure, and generally may do
every other act or thing necessary to carry into
effect the provisions of this act, and promote the
objects and designs of said company, as authorised
