WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR 493

same to the voters of the town and validating certain
acquisitions of real property by the Mayor and Common
Council of Union Bridge.

This Bill repeals the requirement of the charter of Union
Bridge which prohibits the purchase of land by the Mayor
and Council without the approval of the qualified voters of
the town, in an effort to correct the action of the town
officials in acquiring property last summer without such ap-
proval.

There is considerable opposition to the repeal of this pro-
vision of the charter as a general requirement, and it is
doubtful that so doing would have a retroactive effect.

For this reason the Bill will be vetoed.
