CHAPTER 98
(House Bill 137)
AN ACT to re-enact Sections 326, 327, 329 and 331 of the Code
of Anne Arundel County (1947 Edition), being Article 2
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Anne
Arundel County", sub-title "Fire Companies", to extend the
purpose for which appropriations for fire companies may
be used and providing for an increase in the salaries of fire
company chauffeurs, thus validating the provisions of
Chapter 231 of the Acts of 1949.
WHEREAS, by Chapter 231 of the Acts of 1949 the General
Assembly attempted to increase the salaries of fire company
chauffeurs in Anne Arundel County; and
WHEREAS, because of a probable defect in the title of this
Act it is not being put into effect by the County Commis-
sioners of said County; and
WHEREAS, the result is to make it extremely difficult for
the County to secure qualified persons to fill these positions,
this condition being one of acute emergency in the affairs of
Anne Arundel County; now, therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 326, 327, 329 and 331 of the Code of Anne
Arundel County (1947 Edition), being Article 2 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Fire Companies", be and the same are
hereby re-enacted, to read as follows:
326. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
are hereby authorized and empowered to levy a special tax
in each Election District of Anne Arundel County to raise
an amount of money not exceeding Forty-four Thousand Dol-
lars ($44,000.00) for the year 1950 and every year thereafter
including such additional amounts as may be necessary for
the purchase, maintenance, operation and replacement re-
serves of fire fighting equipment, truck quarters and chauffeurs7
dormitories, of Volunteer Fire Companies of Anne Arundel
County, including the City of Annapolis, and such other
Volunteer Fire Companies as may be created hereafter, by
