CHAPTER 60
(Senate Bill 157)
AN ACT to authorize and empower The Mayor and Council
of Salisbury to purchase certain property, known as the
Upton Street School property, located in Salisbury, Mary-
land, and to borrow upon the faith and credit of Salis-
bury, a sum or sums of money not exceeding Seventy-
Five Thousand Dollars ($75,000.00), and to issue bonds
for the payment of same and to use the proceeds thereof
for the purpose of purchasing and improving said Upton
Street School property.
WHEREAS, The Board of Education of Wicomico County,
Maryland, is about to sell certain property located in Salis-
bury, Maryland, known as the Upton Street School prop-
erty, which said property is no longer required for the pur-
poses of said Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, The Mayor and Council of Salisbury desires to
acquire said property for the purpose of using it as a
City Hall, the present City Hall facilities being inadequate
for the needs of the City of Salisbury.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That The Mayor and Council of Salisbury be, and it
is hereby authorized to acquire by purchase from the Board
of Education of Wicomico County, or the legal owner or
owners thereof, all that property situate and lying within
the corporate limits of Salisbury, known as the Upton Street
School property, and that the purchase hereby authorized
shall not be subject to the provisions of Chapter 217 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, 1939 Session.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the purpose
of providing funds for the acquisition and improvement of
said Upton Street School property, The Mayor and Council
of Salisbury be, and it is hereby authorized and empowered
to borrow from time to time a sum or sums of money not
exceeding in the aggregate Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars
(175,000.00), upon the faith and credit of the City of Salis-
bury, and to issue and sell serial bonds therefor, which said
