States of America exclusive jurisdiction over land in the
County of Frederick, State of Maryland, used in connection
with a military reservation known as Camp Detrick.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That two new sections be and they are hereby added to
Article 96 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition),
title "United States", sub-title "Calibration Range", said new
sections to be known as Sections 36A and 36B, to follow
immediately after Section 36 of said Article, and to read as
follows:
36A. The consent of the State of Maryland is hereby given
in accordance with Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution of
the United States, to the acquisition by the United States by
purchase, condemnation or otherwise of certain land aggre-
gating approximately Six Hundred Ninety-Eight and Eighty-
Nine One Hundredths (698.89) acres, being in two parcels,
situate in Frederick County, Maryland, now used in connec-
tion with a military reservation known as Camp Detrick, and
to the acquisition of such additional land as may be required
for use as a part of said military reservation, with the excep-
tion of any parts or portions of roads adjacent to and along
the exterior boundaries thereof which have not been aban-
doned and closed.
36B. Exclusive jurisdiction over said land so acquired by
the United States shall be and the same is hereby ceded to
the United States for all purposes except that the State
retains the right to serve thereon all civil and criminal process
of the courts of this State, but the jurisdiction so ceded shall
continue no longer than the said United States shall own
such land.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
