tween the hours of 2 P. M. and 7 P. M. and after 9 P. M.
on Sundays; to repeal all public general and public local
laws inconsistent therewith to the extent of such incon-
sistency and to provide for a referendum vote thereon.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That one new section be and the same is hereby added
to Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land (1939 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-
title "Sabbath Breaking", said new section to follow imme-
diately after Section 576A of said Article, to be designated
as Section 576B, and to read as follows:

576B. Nothing contained in Sections 560 or 576 of this
Article shall be construed to prohibit or make unlawful the
exhibition within the corporate limits of the Town of Mt.
Airy, in Carroll County, of motion pictures between the hours
of 2 P. M. and 7 P. M. and after 9 P. M. on the first day
of the week, commonly called Sunday, whether the same
be exhibited with or without a charge or admission fee;
provided, however, that such exhibition shall be subject to
all provisions of law relating to licensing and censorship
applicable to motion picture exhibitions on week days. The
work or employment of any operator, ticket seller or any
other employee or attendants in connection with any such
exhibition of motion pictures shall not be unlawful because
performed on Sundays. Any exhibition of motion pictures
on Sundays, except as hereby authorized, shall be unlawful
and subject to the provisions and penalties of said Sections
560 and 576 of this Article.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws and parts
of laws, whether public general or public local laws, incon-
sistent with the provisions of this Act, be and the same are
hereby repealed with respect to any exhibition authorized by
Section 576B as enacted by Section 1 hereof, to the extent of
any such inconsistency.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That Sections 1 and 2
of this Act shall not become effective until they have been
submitted for adoption or rejection to the qualified voters
of the Town of Mt. Airy, in Carroll County. At any special
or general election as may be designated by the Mayor and
Council of Mt. Airy, there shall be submitted to the regular
and qualified voters of the Town of Mt. Airy the question
whether the exhibition of motion pictures on Sundays shall
be authorized, as provided by Section 1 hereof. The Mayor
and Council of Mt. Airy shall cause to be printed on the
ballots to be used at said election the title of this Act, and
underneath said title on separate lines a square or box to
the right of and opposite the words "For Motion Pictures on
Sunday", and a corresponding square or box to the right of
