(Senate Bill 39)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 1
of Chapter 422 of the 1947 Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland in order to authorize the County Commissioners
of Baltimore County to use money borrowed pursuant to
said Chapter 422 of the Acts of 1947 for the purpose of the
purchase of buildings and land suitable for public school
purposes.

WHEREAS, Section 1 of Chapter 422 of the 1947 Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland authorizes and empowers the
County Commissioners of Baltimore County to finance the
construction, improvement or extension of certain public
schools as therein defined, said definition including the con-
struction, reconstruction, improvement, extension, alteration
and modernization of public school buildings in the county,
including the sites thereof, the cost of acquiring any such
sites, etc., but does not include the purchase by the County
Commissioners of buildings and land suitable for public
school purposes; and

WHEREAS, the County Commissioners of Baltimore County
desire to use a portion of the money to be borrowed pursuant
to said Act for the purchase of certain fully completed public
school buildings from the Federal Works Agency, an agency
of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, it is the intention and desire of the General
Assembly of Maryland by the repeal and re-enactment of said
section to authorize and permit the County Commissioners
of Baltimore County to use the money borrowed pursuant to
said Act for said purpose; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1 of Chapter 422 of the 1947 Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

1. As used herein, the term "County" shall mean the body
politic and corporate of the State of Maryland known as the
County Commissioners of Baltimore County; the term "public
schools" shall include the purchase of buildings and land
suitable for public school purposes, the construction, recon-
struction, improvement, extension, alteration and moderniza-
tion of public school buildings in the county, including the
sites therefor, the cost of acquiring any such sites, archi-
tectural and engineering services, including preparation of
plans, drawings and specifications for such schools and the
development of the grounds, and all customary permanent
