Estimates of said City. Provision shall also be made in said
Ordinance for the expenses of the office of the Sheriff, includ-
ing the purchase and maintenance of motor vehicles, and the
Mayor and City Council shall have the same power with
respect to the salaries of the office of Sheriff as it has under
the City Charter with respect to the salaries of all municipal
departments. The Mayor and City Council shall pay monthly
to the Sheriff of Baltimore City one-twelfth of the amount
provided in the Ordinance of Estimates for the expenses of
the Sheriff's Office. Within thirty days after December 31st
in each and every year the Sheriff of Baltimore City shall pay
to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore any of the unex-
pended expense funds advanced during the year preceding
said December 31st, and render a detailed account to the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore of all expense funds
received and expended by him.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1948.

(House Bill 42)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
179 and 180 of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1947 Supplement), title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-
title "State Tax Commission", authorizing the County Com-
missioners of Montgomery County to increase the compen-
sation of the Supervisor of Assessments and the Assessors
of said county.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 179 and 180 of Article 81 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Revenue
and Taxes", sub-title "State Tax Commission", be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
179. (a) The annual salaries of the Supervisors of Assess-
ments shall be determined by the classification of the respec-
tive counties and Baltimore City as established by the State
Tax Commission and in accordance with schedules of com-
pensation as herein set forth for each such classification.
(b) The State Tax Commission shall fix and establish the
classification of each county and Baltimore City only after
consultation with the respective Boards of County Commis-
