SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 687.
(House Bill 810)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 96 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "United States",
said new section to be known as Section 41 and to be under
a new sub-title of said Article to be known as "Retention
of Jurisdiction by the State" and said new sub-title and new
section to follow immediately after Section 40 of said Article,
providing for the retention of State jurisdiction over land
hereafter acquired by the United States within this State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
96 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition) title
"United States", said new section to be known as Section 41
and to be under a new sub-title of said Article to be known
as "Retention of Jurisdiction by the State" and said new sub-
title and new section to follow immediately after Section 40
of said Article, said new section to read as follows:

41. Notwithstanding anything contained in .any of the
sections of this Article to the contrary the State of Mary-
land hereby reserves as to all lands within the State hereafter
acquired by the United States or any agency thereof, whether
by purchase, lease, condemnation or otherwise, and as to all
property, persons and transactions on any such lands, juris-
diction and authority to the fullest extent permitted by the
Constitution of the United States and not inconsistent with
the Governmental uses, purposes, and functions for which the
land was acquired or is used. Nothing in this section shall be
deemed or construed to restrict the jurisdiction and authority
of the State over any lands heretofore acquired by the United
States, or any agency thereof, or over property, persons or
transactions on any such lands.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on June 1, 1943.
