SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Garrett County are hereby authorized and di-
rected to include in the tax levy for the year 1944, a sum suf-
ficient to repay the said loan, with interest thereon.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of
the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

CHAPTER 642,
(House Bill 721)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wash-
ington County", sub-title "State's Attorney", said new sec-
tion to be known as Section 798A, and to follow immediately
after Section 798 of said Article, providing for the appoint-
ment of and compensation for a stenographer for the office
of the State's Attorney and Criminal Investigator for Wash-
ington County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Washington County", sub-title "State's Attorney",
said new section to be known as Section 798A, to follow imme-
diately after Section 798 of said Article, and to read as
follows:

798A. From and after June 1, 1943, it shall be the duty of
the State's Attorney f or Washington County to employ, sub-
ject to the approval of the County Commissioners of Washing-
ton County, a competent person at a salary of not more than
Eighty Dollars ($80. 00) per month, the person so employed to
be capable of doing the necessary stenographic and clerical
work in the office of the State's Attorney and Criminal In-
vestigator for Washington County, under the direction and
supervision of the said State's Attorney. The County Com-
missioners of Washington County shall pay the salary pro-
vided for under the terms of this section, in weekly install-
