406%. The "Anne. Arundel County Police Force" is hereby
created. Said Police Force shall consist of a Chief of Police,
one lieutenant, four sergeants, two desk sergeants, and nine-
teen officers and no other 'employees whatsoever but the
County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County may, upon
the request of the Police Commission, appoint not exceeding
three (3) additional officers. The salaries of said members
of said Police Force shall be as follows: Chief of Police,
Twenty-seven Hundred (f2, 700. 00) Dollars per annum; Lieu-
tenant, Twenty-one Hundred ($2, 100. 00) Dollars per annum;
sergeants, Nineteen Hundred Eighty ($1, 980. 00) Dollars per
annum; patrolmen, Eighteen Hundred ($1, 800. 00) Dollars
per annum, all of said salaries to be paid in semi-monthly
installments and no other fee or compensation whatsoever
shall be paid to any member of said department.

The said salaries of Eighteen Hundred ($1, 800. 00) Dollars
per annum shall be paid to all patrolmen in the present police
force who were members thereof prior to January 1, 1943. All
members being employed subsequent to January 1, 1943, shall
begin at a salary of Fourteen Hundred Forty ($1, 440. 00) Dol-
lars per annum, payable in semi-monthly installments, and
after having served six months as a member of said Department
shall be entitled to a Ten ($10. 00) Dollar monthly raise if in
the opinion of the Chief and the Police Commissioners said
member qualifies for said raise. Every six months thereafter
said new member of said Police Force shall be entitled to an
additional Ten ($10. 00) Dollar monthly raise under the same
conditions as set forth above until said new member obtains
maximum salary of Eighteen Hundred ($1, 800. 00) Dollars
per annum.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County may,
in their discretion, reduce the salaries hereinbefore provided,
if in the opinion of the Police Commission economic conditions
so warrant and provided further that no salary shall be re-
duced more than Three Hundred Sixty ($360. 00) Dollars per
annum.

SEC. 2. And be it farther enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
