which shall recognize such certificate of the Superintendent as
sufficient authority for the issuance of a certificate of title
and registration.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 31 of said
Article 88B, as the same was repealed and re-enacted by
Chapter 822 of the Acts of 1941, relating to the pension fund
of said Department, be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
31. Whenever any of the employees of the Department of
Maryland State Police and any of the license examiners of the
Commissioner of Motor Vehicles shall have given meritorious
service as such employee for a period of ten continuous years,
and shall have reached the age of 55 years, such employee shall
be eligible for retirement upon his voluntary application or
may be retired by the Superintendent of the Department of
Maryland State Police, provided such employee be found, after
medical examination given by a Medical Board of three physi-
cians, consisting of the Medical Examiner of the Department
of Maryland State Police and two other physicians to be
selected by the Superintendent of the State Police and accept-
able to the State Police Department employee concerned to be
physically incapable of performing the duties and services re-
quired of him; and in all retirements under the provisions of
this section the employee in question shall be paid during the
remainder of his natural life a salary or pension, payable
monthly, equal to fifty per cent (50%) of his annual salary,
said annual salary to be taken as of the year immediately pre-
ceding the granting of his application for retirement. No
money payable under this sub-title shall, prior to issuance and
delivery of the warrant or voucher therefor, be capable of
being assigned, charged or taken in execution or attachment.
All employees subject to the provisions of this sub-title shall
contribute to the Pension Fund, hereinafter provided for, a
sum to be determined by the Superintendent of the Depart-
ment of Maryland State Police but not to exceed three and
one-half per centum (3%%) of their annual salary, said sum
to be approximately equal to one-half of the annual cost of
this pension system to the individual employee so contributing.
The amount of the contribution of each of the employees sub-
ject to the provisions of this sub-title shall be fixed annually
in advance by the Superintendent of the Department of Mary-
land State Police and shall be deducted monthly from the
salary checks of the said employees and paid in lieu thereof to
the Superintendent of the Department of Maryland State
Police to be placed by him forthwith in said Pension Fund.
The said Fund shall also consist of all fines imposed upon
members of the Maryland State Police by way of discipline,
