be known as Section 307, to follow immediately after Section
306 of said Article, and to read as follows:
307. (a) The Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick is hereby
authorized and empowered to make financial appropriations to
the Independent Hose Company No. 1, the United Steam Fire
Company No. 3, the Junior Fire Company No. 2 and the
Citizens1 Truck Company, all being bodies corporate of the
State of Maryland, located within the corporate limits of Fred-
erick City, in such sums or amounts as it shall think proper,
for the purpose of defraying the expenses of said fire compan-
ies, for the purchase of equipment, maintenance of fire houses
and equipment, payment of salaries and such other necessary
expenses as the Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick shall think
proper. None of said Companies shall purchase any new
equipment to be used in Frederick City, the cost of which
shall exceed the sum of Two Hundred Dollars, without first
obtaining the approval of the Board of Aldermen of Fred-
erick City. Each of said fire companies shall render a finan-
cial statement to the Board of Aldermen at least once a year
and oftener if required by the Board of Aldermen, showing
all amounts of money received by it from the Mayor and
Aldermen of Frederick and from all other sources, all amounts
expended by it and the balance on hand at the time of filing
such report.
(b) Whenever any regular driver, tiller or chauffeur of any
of said companies shall have reached the age of sixty years,
he shall be retired, and if he shall have rendered meritorious
service for at least twenty consecutive years prior thereto he
shall be paid during the remainder of his life, in addition to
the amounts he may receive from Social Security, a salary or
pension, which added thereto, will be equal to the amount
payable to a police patrolman of Frederick City upon retire-
ment, payable in semi-monthly installments.
(e) Whenever any such employee shall be permanently dis-
abled while engaged in the performance of his duties, and who
shall be so determined by two competent physicians, ap-
pointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Board of Alder-
men, after a thorough examination, he shall be retired and
paid for life, in addition to the amounts, he shall receive from
or under the Maryland Workmen's Compensation Insurance
Act, a salary or pension, which added thereto, will be equal
to the amount payable to a police patrolman of Frederick
City upon retirement, payable in semi-monthly installments,
provided such disability shall continue until his death. The
Board of Aldermen may cause any such retired driver, tiller
or chauffeur to be re-examined, from time to time, by two
physicians as above provided, and in the event he shall sub-
