erick County for a period not exceeding ninety days, unless the
person convicted shall pay said fine and costs before the day
limited in the commitment, in which case he shall be released.
Any person who shall give false testimony before either of
said boards shall be liable to be prosecuted for perjury.
SEC. 2. And 'be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 620.
(House Bill 680)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
623 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Allegany County", sub-title
"Sheriff", regulating the compensation of the cook at the
County jail, and providing for appointment of an additional
Deputy Sheriff who shall also perform clerical services,
and to repeal Section 622A of Article 1 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany
County", sub-title "Sheriff", as enacted by Chapter 665 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of 1941, which provided
for an appointment of a clerk to the Sheriff.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 623 of Article 1 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany
County", sub-title "Sheriff", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
623. County Commissioners for Allegany County shall
allow the Sheriff of Allegany County each year:
First—A sum not exceeding five thousand four hundred
dollars for three deputies at an annual salary of one thousand
eight hundred dollars each. One of the Deputies so selected
by the Sheriff shall in addition to his regular and usual duties
as a Deputy Sheriff, be charged with the duty of keeping ac-
curate books and records of the Sheriff's office and performing
all clerical duties incident thereto.
Second—A sum to be set by said County Commissioners for
a cook to the jail.
