CHAPTER 589.
(House Bill 622)
AN ACT to repeal Sections 529-535 of Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Alle-
gany County", sub-title "Railways", said sections relating to
certain electric railways operating in Allegany County.
WHEREAS, the provisions of these sections seem no longer
to be necessary or desirable; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 529-535 of Article 1 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930, Edition), title "Allegany
County", sub-title "Railways", be and they are hereby re-
pealed.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June* 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 590.
(House Bill 623)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 144
of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title "Gypsies", to eliminate
Allegany County from the list of counties exempt from the
provisions of said sub-title.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 144 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title "Gypsies",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
144. It shall not be necessary for a conviction for viola-
tions of any of the provisions of this sub-title for the State to
prove that any person or persons charged with any such viola-
tion has or have no permanent place of abode in this State,
but the burden of proving that such person or persons have a
permanent place of abode in this State shall be upon the
traverser; provided, however, that these provisions shall not
apply to Baltimore and Garrett Counties.
