CHAPTER 73.

(House Bill 45)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 67
of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Workmen's Compensation", sub-title "Safety
Rules", increasing the number of inspectors which may be
appointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 67 of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Workmen's Compensation",
sub-title "Safety Rules", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

67. The State Industrial Accident Commission is hereby
authorized and directed to formulate reasonable rules and
regulations looking to the establishment and maintenance of
conditions of safety and to the prevention of accidents in occu-
pations covered by the provisions of this Article; that said
Commission is hereby authorized and empowered to employ a
competent and discreet person who shall be known as Director
of Safety, and not more than five additional persons as In-
spectors, the said employees to perform such duties as may be
required of them by the State Industrial Accident Commission,
and to receive such salaries as may be provided for them by the
budget of appropriations; no person shall be eligible for ap-
pointment as Director of Safety unless he shall have had at
least five years' experience in safety engineering work.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths
of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of
its passage.
