799, It shall be the duty of the County Health Officer to
examine all applicants for position on the Montgomery County
Police and to certify to the Police Civil Service Commissioner
the physical condition of each of said applicants, and also
when requested examine and certify to the County Commis-
sioners and the Police Trial Board the physical condition
of all of the officers and men of the Montgomery County
Police. For the additional services required by him by this
sub-title, said County Health Officer shall not receive addi-
tional 'Compensation.

800B. The Board of County Commissioners for Montgomery
County are hereby authorized to appoint from time to time
veterans from the armed services of the United States, such
as the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard,
Air Corps, and any other established branches, to the Mont-
gomery County Police Force provided that said person so
applying has served in the armed services of the United States
two years subsequent to the effective date of the Selective
Service Act as enacted by the Congress of the United States
and approved by the President; and the Board of County Com-
missioners are further authorized in their discretion, to appoint
not more than fifteen (15) of the emergency police officers
authorized by Chapter 251 of the Acts of the General Assembly,
1941, provided that said officers appointed shall have served
for one (1) year on the Montgomery County Police Force
prior to their appointment and are selected by the Board of
County Commissioners because of their experience and faithful
services on said Montgomery County Police Force; and the
Board of County Commissioners for Montgomery County in
their discretion, are further authorized, due to the training of
the members of the Maryland State Guard and the Reserve
Militia of the Maryland State Guard, to appoint any member
of the Maryland State Guard and the Reserve Militia of the
Maryland State Guard, who has obtained the rank of a non-
commissioned officer or commissioned officer, to the Mont-
gomery County Police Force.

800C. Whenever it shall appear to the Board of County
Commissioners of Montgomery County that the public safety
requires additional police protection for the preservation of
the peace or the adequate enforcement of law, they may in
their discretion appoint such number of police officers for
periods not to exceed sixty (60) days and may re-appoint
such police officers for such additional sixty (60) day periods
as may in their discretion be necessary for the public welfare;
said temporary police officers so designated shall take the oath
provided by law for deputy sheriffs and shall, during the time
of their appointment, have all the powers of a regular member
