HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 469

Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Washington County", sub-title "Ha-
gerstown", to be under new sub-heading "The Goodwill
Ambulance Fire Company", said new section to be known
as Section 478A, to follow immediately after Section 478
of said Article, and to read as follows:

478A. The Mayor and Council of Hagerstown are here-
by authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to enter
into a contract with The Goodwill Ambulance Fire Com-
pany, a body corporate, to contribute not more than a total
of Five Hundred Dollars ($500. 00) per annum for support
and maintenance of the said The Goodwill Ambulance Fire
Company. The said Mayor and Council are hereby author-
ized and empowered, in their discretion, to levy and collect
annually on the assessable property of said Hagerstown, a
sum of money sufficient to meet the obligations that may
be incurred by the said Mayor and Council of Hagers-
town, under the provisions of this section.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 421.
(Senate Bill 378)

AN ACT to repeal Section 263 of Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County, " sub-title "Hagerstown, " as said
section was amended by Chapter 234 of the Acts of 1941,
and to enact in lieu thereof a new Section 263, providing
for the filling of vacancies in the position of councilman.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 263 of Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County, " sub-title "Hagerstown, " as said sec-
tion was amended by Chapter 234 of the Acts of 1941, be
and it is hereby repealed and that a new Section 263 be
and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to read as follows:

263. (a) In case of a vacancy in the position of coun-
cilman for any ward, by death, resignation or otherwise,
the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council,.
