for the organization of the Organized and Unorganized
Militia of the State, to define the retired list of such
militia, to provide for the reward of veterans of former
wars, 'and to define the period of enlistment in such
militia.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 5, 18, 32 and 38 of Article 65 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Ed. ), title "Mili-
tia, " and Sections 58A, 58L and 58N of said Article as
enacted by Chapter 3. 3 of the Acts of 1941, be and the
same are hereby repealed, and that seven new Sections be
and they are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, said new Sec-
tions to be known as Section 5, to follow immediately after
Section 4 of said Article; Section 18 to follow immediately
after Section 17 of said Article; Section 32 to follow im-
mediately after Section 31 of said Article; Section 38 to
follow immediately after Section 37 of said Article; Sec-
tion 58A to follow immediately (after Section 58 of said
Article; Section 58L to follow immediately after Section
58K of said Article; and Section 58N to follow immediately
after Section 58M of said Article, and to read as follows:

5. The militia of this State shall be divided into two
classes: the Organized Militia and the Unorganized Mili-
tia. The Organized Militia of the State shall consist of
officers appointed and commissioned by the Governor, and
of such ablejbodied male citizens of the State, and such
able-bodied males of foreign birth as have declared their
intentions to become citizens of the State, resident therein,
as shall be regularly enlisted therein, including the National
Guard, the State Guard and the Reserve Militia (Minute
Men). A military office for which no salary is provided
in the budget shall not be considered an office of profit.

The Unorganized Militia shall consist of all those liable
to serve but not regularly enlisted.

18. There shall foe a retired list exclusively restricted
to officers and enlisted men of the Organized Militia; such
retired list shall be divided into three (3) groups, the
Maryland National Guard, Retired; the Maryland State
Guard, Retired; and the (Maryland Minute Men, Retired.
The Governor may, under such regulations as he shall
deem proper, provide for the retirement of officers and
enlisted men. A retired officer or enlisted man may be
ordered to active duty by the Governor.

32. The provisions of this Section shall apply when
the Organized Militia, or any part thereof, shall be ordered
