branch of the Organized Militia, except the National Guard,
shall be exempt from jury service. Honorary member-
ship, in any branch of the Organized Militia except the
National Guard shall not at any time be a cause of exemp-
tion from jury service.

58E. Use in this State. The Governor shall have the
power in case of insurrection, invasion, tumult, riot, breach
of peace or imminent danger thereof, or to enforce the
laws of this State, to order into service any part of the
Maryland State Guard that he may deem proper. When
the Militia is on active service, the Commanding Officer
and his subordinates shall be, and they are hereby
invested with all the authority of sheriffs and deputy
sheriffs in enforcing the laws of this State, and they
, may cooperate with the civil authorities, or take entire
charge of the situation as in the judgment of the command-
ing officer the exigencies of the case may require.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety,
and being passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

(Senate Bill 280)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 5, 18, 32 and 38 of Article 65
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Ed. 1), title
"Militia, " land to repeal Sections 58A, 58L and 58N of
said Article as enacted by Chapter 33 of the Acts of
1941, and to enact in lieu thereof seven new Sections, to
be known as Section 5, to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 4 of said Article; Section 18 to follow immediately
after Section 17 of said Article; Section 32 to follow
immediately after Section 31 of said Article; Section 38
to follow immediately after Section 37 of said Article;
Section 58A to follow immediately after Section 58 of
said Article; Section 58L to follow immediately after
Section 58K of said Article; and Section 58N to follow
immediately after Section 58M of said Article, to provide
