AN ACT to repeal Section 97 of Article 14 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "How-
ard County", sub-title "County Treasurer77, and to enact in
lieu thereof a new section 97, relating to the time from which
taxes shall bear interest.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 97 of Article 14 of the Code of Public Local
La^s of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Howard County",
sub-title "County Treasurer", be and it is hereby repealed and
that a new Section 97 be and it is hereby enacted in lieu there-
of, to read as follows:
97. All taxes levied subsequent to those levied for the year
1943 and which are unpaid on the first day of July following
the levy, shall bear interest from said first day of July until
paid at the rate of six per centum per annum; provided, how-
ever, that all taxes levied for all years prior to the year 1944
and which are unpaid on the first day of October following
the levy, shall bear interest from the said first day of October
until paid at the rate of six per centum per annum; and said
Treasurer shall account for said interest in his settlement
with the County Commissioners.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of
the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.
