accept bail and he shall perform such other duties as may be
assigned to him by the Chief Magistrate. There shall be an As-
sistant Supervisor who, in addition to the duties which may be
assigned to him by the Chief Magistrate, shall act in the ab-
sence of the Supervisor and shall at such time possess the same
authority as the Supervisor.

221. COURT CLERKS. Such number of said clerical assist-
ants as the Chief Magistrate shall deem necessary shall be
designated court clerks, and shall be assigned by the Chief
Magistrate to duties in the court rooms when sessions of the
Court are being held, and to such other duties as the Chief
Magistrate shall prescribe.

222. SENIOR CLERKS. Such number of said clerical assist-
ants as the Chief Magistrate shall deem necessary shall be
designated senior clerks, who shall perform such duties as
the Chief Magistrate shall prescribe. Nothing herein contained
shall affect the status or pension rights of former employees
of the Traffic Court now on retirement.

223. CLERKS. In addition there shall be appointed by the
Chief Magistrate certain clerical assistants designated clerks,
the number of said clerks and their salaries and the number
and salaries of Court Clerks and Senior Clerks and the salaries
of the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor shall be as pro-
vided for in the State Budget.

All clerical assistants provided for in this sub-title shall be
appointed by the Chief Magistrate from lists prepared by the
Board of Police Examiners in the same manner that candi-
dates for the Baltimore City Police Force are now appointed.

The dockets and records of arrests and convictions and all
other records shall be kept by the clerks in such form and
under such plan as may jointly be agreed upon by the Chief
Magistrate of the Traffic Court and the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles.

227. EXPENSES. All necessary expenses for the operation
of the Traffic Court, including the salaries of the Magistrates,
substitute Magistrates and Clerks herein provided for, includ-
ing the premiums on the corporate bonds of said Clerks, shall
be paid out of the Special Fund created by the State Treasurer
from the fines remitted to him by the Commissioner of Motor
Vehicles, as provided for by Section 152 of this Article.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
