soever, and shall also employ and appoint a Clerk, who shall be
paid for his services as clerk, the sum of One Thousand Two
Hundred Dollars (f 1, 200. 00) per annum payable in equal
monthly installments in addition to his salary as a member of
the Permanent Board of Registry of Montgomery County, and
shall also employ and appoint a stenographer who shall be paid
the sum of One Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($1, 800. 00)
per annum payable in equal monthly installments. The Board
of Supervisors of Elections for Montgomery County shall from
time to time employ and appoint such permanent or temporary
assistants as may be necessary for the proper transaction of the
business of the office and such compensation as may be fixed by
the said Board of Supervisors of Elections; such assistants
shall be paid by the County Commissioners of Montgomery
County upon voucher by the said Supervisors. The Supervisors
of Elections of Montgomery County shall also employ and ap-
point a Custodian of voting machines, and one deputy Custo-
dian, whose duty it shall be to prepare the machines to be used
in the elections to be held therein, and the deputy Custodian
appointed by the Supervisors shall belong to the other leading
political party from that to which the custodian shall belong.
Such Custodian and deputy Custodian shall, under the direc-
tion of said Board, have charge of and represent the said Board
during the preparation of the voting machines, and perform
such other duties as may be prescribed from time to time by
the Board of Supervisors of Elections. Said Custodian and
deputy Custodian shall be paid (f8. 00) per day for each day
served and they shall each be paid the actual expenses incident
to the operation of their automobiles in the performance of
their duties; they shall serve at the pleasure of the said Board,
and each Custodian shall take the constitutional oath of office,
which shall be filed with the said Board. The Board of County
Commissioners are hereby authorized and directed to pay all
salaries and other expenses provided for in this section.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That all laws, or portions
of laws, inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this
Act, be and they are hereby repealed to the extent of such con-
flict or inconsistencies.

SEC. 3. And I)e it further enacted^ That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency law and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety, and having been
passed upon a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths (3/5)
of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of
its passage.
