County", sub-title "Police Department", as said sections
were enacted by Chapter 758 of the Acts of 1939, relat-
ing to the number and compensation of members of the
Police Force, changing the name of the Board of Exam-
iners to Board of Police Commissioners, and modifying
the requirements as to membership on said Board. '

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 406i/2 and 406% of Article 2
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Police De-
partment", as said sections were enacted by Chapter 758
of the Acts of 1939, be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

4061/2. The "Anne Arundel County Police Force" is
hereby created. Said Police Force shall consist of a Chief
of Police, one lieutenant, four sergeants, two desk ser-
geants, and nineteen officers and no other employees what-
soever. The salaries of said members of said Police Force
shall be as follows: Chief of Police, twenty-five hundred
($2500. 00) dollars per annum; Lieutenant, twenty-one
hundred ($2100. 00) dollars per annum; sergeants, nine-
teen hundred eighty ($1980. 00) dollars per annum; patrol-
men, eighteen hundred ($1800. 00; ) dollars per annum, all
of said salaries to be paid in semi-monthly installments and
no other fee or compensation whatsoever shall be paid to
any member of said department.

The said salaries of eighteen hundred ($1800. 00) dollars
per annum shall be paid to all patrolmen in the present
police force who were members thereof prior to January 1,
1943. All members being employed subsequent to January
1, 1943, shall begin at a salary of fourteen hundred forty
($1440. 00) dollars per annum, payable in semi-monthly
installments, and after having served six months as a mem-
ber of said Department shall be entitled to a Ten ($10. 00)
Dollar monthly raise if in the opinion of the Chief and the
Police Commissioners said member qualifies for said raise.
Every six months thereafter said new member of said
Police Force shall be entitled to an additional Ten ($10. 00)
Dollar monthly raise under the same conditions as set
forth above until said new member obtains the maximum
salary of Eighteen Hundred ($1800. 00) Dollars per annum.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
may reduce the salaries hereinbefore provided, if in the
opinion of the Police Commission economic conditions so
warrant and provided further that no salary shall be re-
duced more than Three Hundred Sixty ($360. 00) Dollars
per annum.
