mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by
three-fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall
take effect on the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 204.
(House Bill 309)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
479 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's County77, sub-
title "Hyattsville77, as amended by Chapter 471 of the Acts
of the General Assembly of 1933, to provide for the election
of officers of The Mayor and Common Council of Hyattsville,
with appointment of election officials, designation of polling
places, and changing time for opening and closing of polls.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 479 of Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's
County77, sub-title "Hyattsville77, as amended by Chapter 471
of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1933, be, and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

479. That all elections to fill the offices of Mayor, Council-
man and Treasurer and for other purposes shall be by ballot,
and shall be held on the first Monday in May of every
second year, beginning on the first Monday in May, 1943,
except as otherwise provided by law. No persons shall be
allowed to vote in any election in said town except those
persons whose names shall appear upon the register of voters
in the ward where such persons shall appear to vote and who
shall be actual residents as hereinafter defined, of said town
upon the day of election. The Mayor and Common Council
shall annually appoint two judges and two clerks, who shall
themselves be registered voters, to conduct the election in each
of said wards; provided that whenever there is only one candi-
date nominated for Mayor, only one candidate is nominated
for Treasurer and only one candidate nominated for Council-
man in any ward thereof, the election for such offices shall be
held in such ward or wards as the said Mayor and Common
Council shall direct, and judges and clerks shall be appointed
