(House Joint Resolution 19)
A Joint Resolution requesting the United States Fish and Wild
Life Service to establish fish hatcheries in Maryland.
WHEREAS, in 1940, the United States had one hundred eight-
een (118) fish hatcheries in thirty-nine (39) States; and
WHEREAS, these hatcheries collected seven billion five hun-
dred million (7, 500, 000, 000) fish eggs for use in these hatch-
eries; and
WHEREAS, there are four (4) fish hatcheries in our neighbor-
ing State of Virginia and not a single United States fish
hatchery in the State of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, the total value of fish caught in Maryland, for the
last year for which information is available, amounted to Pour
Hundred Twenty-four Thousand, Five Hundred Eighteen Dol-
lars (|424, 518. 00) and in Virginia to Two Million, Two Hun-
dred Three Thousand, One Hundred Sixteen Dollars ($2, 203, -
116. 00); and
WHEREAS, there seems to be no sound reason why the United
States Government should not establish fish hatcheries in
Maryland, in order to place the State of Maryland on an equal
basis with other States, particularly at this time when it is
essential to increase the supply of fish for food; therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
United States Fish and Wild Life Servie® be and it is hereby
requested to establish fish hatcheries in the State of Maryland,
at such place or places as it may deem desirable; and be it
further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland send,
under the Great Seal of the State, copies of this Resolution to
the Secretary of the Interior, the United States Fish and Wild
Life Service and to each Representative from Maryland in the
Congress of the United States.

(House Joint Resolution 3)
A Joint Resolution providing that provision shall be made in
the next State Budget for the payment of a certain sum of
money to the Maas Construction Company.
