178. VEHICLE ENTERING THROUGH HIGHWAY OR STOP IN-
TERSECTION.
(a) The driver of a vehicle shall come to a full stop as re-
quired by this Article at the entrance to a through highway
and shall yield the right of way to other vehicles approaching
on said through highway.
(b) The driver or a vehicle shall likewise come to a full stop
in obedience to a stop sign and yield the right of way to a
vehicle approaching on the intersecting highway as required
herein at an intersection where a stop sign is erected at one
or more entrances thereto although not a part of a through
highway.
179. ENTERING PAVED PUBLIC HIGHWAY FROM UNPAVED OR
PRIVATE ROAD. The operator of a vehicle entering a paved
public highway, which is hereby defined to be a highway
having a hard, smooth surface, composed of gravel, shells,
crushed stone, paving blocks, asphalt, concrete or other sim-
ilar substance, from an unpaved public highway, or from a
private road or drive, shall come to a full stop upon reaching
the intersection, and yield the right of way to all vehicles ap-
proaching on such paved public highway.
180. OPERATION OF VEHICLES AND STREET CARS ON AP-
PROACH OF AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES, (a) Upon the
immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, when
the driver is giving audible signal by siren, exhaust whistle, or
bell, the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right of
way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and
as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the high-
way clear of any intersection and shall stop and remain in
such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has
passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.
(b) Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle,
as above stated, the operator of every street car or trackless
trolley shall immediately stop such car clear of any intersec-
tion and keep it in such position until the authorized emergency
vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police
officer.
(e) This section shall not operate. to relieve the driver of
an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with
due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway.
Violation of Sections 176 to 180 inclusive shall be deemed to
be a misdemeanor and any person upon conviction shall be
punishable by a fine of one ($1. 00) dollar to one hundred
(1100. 00) dollars.
