1858 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 1007

License cannot be issued to persons with vision in one eye
only, unless such condition has existed for a period of not less
than one year prior to date of application.

Failure to meet the above requirements precludes the is-
suance of any driving license.

(d) COLOR TEST—COLOR BLIND RESTRICTIONS. Applicants
for any driving license must be able to distinguish between
the red, green and amber lights used in traffic signals, which
respectively mean "Stop", "Go" and "Get Ready to Stop or
Go. "

If applicant can readily distinguish green at all times but
may have difficulty in distinguishing red from amber, or am-
ber from red, he/she may be issued an unrestricted license.

In the event applicant cannot distinguish green from red
or amber, or red or amber from green, a restricted license for
"Daylight Driving Only" may be issued.

(e) APPLICANTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO READ ENGLISH. An ap-
plicant for any driving license who has passed the prescribed
examinations on the motor vehicle law, in driving, and for eye
test, but who cannot read sufficient English in order to inter-
pret the danger, warning, no parking, and other highway
and street signs, erected by the State Roads Commission
and by cities and towns, may receive a restricted license
which requires the operator to be accompanied on driving seat
by a person able to read and interpret such signs.

The applicant so restricted, may at any time be reexamined
and upon demonstrating ability to interpret such signs, will be
issued an unrestricted license.

(f) APPLICANTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO SIGN NAME. An ap-
plicant who is unable to sign his/her name legibly, as herein
elsewhere required by law for identification purposes, will not
be issued any type of driving license.

(g) APPLICANTS WITHOUT THE USE OF ARMS. An applicant
who is without the use of either the right or left arm above
the elbow joint may be granted, at the discretion of the Depart-
ment, a restricted license but such person at all times when
operating a motor vehicle may be required to wear a serviceable
artificial arm or suitable attachment to assure compliance with
the provisions of Section 80 (9) of this Article.

(h) APPLICANTS WITHOUT THE USE OF LEGS. An applicant
who is without the use of a foot or leg, or, who from any cause
has no use of a foot or leg, shall appear before an Examiner
of the Department with the motor vehicle which the applicant
intends to operate and upon demonstration to the Department
of ability to drive said vehicle in a safe manner, may be
granted a restricted license to operate said vehicle only.
