issued by the manufacturer and assigned to the dealer to whom
the vehicle is delivered.

Application for a certificate of registration of a new motor
vehicle purchased in another jurisdiction must be accom-
panied by the papers required in such jurisdiction.

New motor vehicles are not required to be delivered for in-
spection before securing certificate of registration.

42. TRANSFER OF NEW MOTOR VEHICLE TO PURCHASER.
Upon sale of a new motor vehicle, assignment of certificate
from the dealer shall be given to the purchaser, who must
immediately apply to the Department for a Certificate of Title,
surrendering the assigned certificate.

When sale is made to a non-resident, who does not desire
to secure Maryland registration, notice of the sale shall be
forwarded to the Department by the dealer, upon form furn-
ished by the Department, within twenty-four hours after sale.

43. NOTICE BY DEALERS OF RECEIPT OF USED MOTOR VEHI-
CLES. When the purchaser or transferee of a used motor
vehicle is a manufacturer, dealer or used car dealer or dis-
tributor who holds the vehicle for resale, such manufacturer,
dealer or used car dealer or distributor shall not be required
to apply for a certificate of title, as provided for in Section
22, but such manufacturer, dealer or used car dealer or dis-
tributor shall within twenty-four (24) hours notify the De-
partment, upon a form prescribed and furnished by the De-
partment, of the receipt of such motor vehicle. Such notice
shall contain the make, model, engine and serial numbers of
the vehicle and the name and address of the person, firm or
corporation from whom the vehicle was received, as well as
any other information which the Department may require.

Violation of Sections 41, 42 and 43 shall be deemed to be a
misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punishable by a
fine of One (f 1. 00) Dollar to One Hundred (f 100. 00) Dollars
or by imprisonment not to exceed one (1) year or by both
such fine and imprisonment.

44. TRANSFER BY OPERATION OF LAW. (a) Whenever the
title or interest of an owner in or to a registered vehicle
shall pass to another otherwise than by voluntary transfer,
the registration thereof shall expire and the vehicle shall not
be operated upon the highways of this State unless and until
the person entitled to possession of such vehicle shall apply
for and obtain the registration and certificate of title thereof,
except that such vehicle may be operated by the person en-
titled to its possession or his legal representative upon the
highways of this State for a distance not exceeding two hun-
