a salary or salaries to be fixed by said Commissioners. The
Treasurer shall be responsible for the official conduct of such
Clerk or Clerks so appointed by him.

SEC. 1A. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
not become effective until it shall have been submitted to the
qualified voters of Wicomico County at the election to be held
in November, 1944. There shall be printed on the ballots to
be used at said election, the title of this Act and underneath
said title on separate lines, a square or box to the right of and
opposite the words "For Increased Compensation of County
Treasurer" and a corresponding square or box to the right of
and opposite the words "Against Increased Compensation of
County Treasurer", so that the voters shall be able to designate
by a cross mark in the proper square or box his or her deci-
sion for or against said increased compensation. If a majority
of the votes cast on said question shall be "For Increased Com-
pensation of County Treasurer", then this Act shall become
immediately effective. If a majority of the votes cast thereon
shall be "Against Increased Compensation of County Treas-
urer", then this Act shall be null and void and of no effect
whatsoever.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this
Act shall not become effective until the expiration of the term
of the present County Treasurer unless a vacancy in said office
occurs before the expiration of the present term, at which time
all the provisions of this Act shall become effective, it being
the intention of the General Assembly that the provisions of
this Act shall apply to the successor to the present County
Treasurer of Wicomico County.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments, Section 142
of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edi-
. tion), title "Public Education", sub-title "The County Super-
intendent of Schools", relating to the appointment and re-
moval of assistants, supervisors, attendants, officers, clerks,
and providing f or the appointment of a Supervisor of School
Property for Montgomery County, and fixing his term of of-
fice, salary, duties, and power to appoint an assistant, and
fixing the salary of such assistant,
