CHAPTER 763.
(Senate Bill 101)
AN ACT to add a new Section to Article 87 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Ed. ), title "Sheriffs",
sub-title "Collection of Officers' Fees", said new Section
to be known as Section 37A, and to follow immediately
after Section 37 of said Article, relating to the care
and custody of records in Sheriffs' offices.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new Section be added to Article 87 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Ed. ), title "Sher-
iffs", sub-title "Collection of Officers' Fees", to follow
immediately after Section 37 of said Article, said new
Section to read as follows:
37A. Upon the retirement of any Sheriff from office
for any reason whatsoever, all dockets, books of account
and other records of every kind and description shall re-
main in said office in the custody of his successor, pro-
vided, however, that every Sheriff so retiring, and every
administrator of such Sheriff shall, during the period
specified by Sections 35 and 36 of this Article, have a
right, on receipting therefor, to the temporary possession
of all needful papers in order to enable him to complete
the collections specified in said Sections.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect on June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 764.

AN ACT to fix the rate of State Taxation for each of the
years nineteen hundred and forty-four (1944) and nine-
teen hundred and forty-five (1945), in accordance with
the provisions of Section 28, Article 81 of the Code of
Public General Laws of the State of Maryland.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the rate of State taxation f or each of the
years nineteen hundred and forty-four (1944) and nine-
