CHAPTER 140.

(House Bill 278)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
552 of Article 6 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Caroline County", sub-title
"Sheriff", as said section was amended by Chapter 79 of the
Acts of 1933, increasing the allowance to the Sheriff of
Caroline County for boarding and keeping prisoners at the
County Jail.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 552 of Article 6 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Caroline County",
sub-title "Sheriff", as said section was amended by Chapter
79 of the Acts of 1933, be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

552. The Sheriff of Caroline County shall be allowed a sum
not exceeding sixty cents a day for boarding and keep-
ing each prisoner committed to his custody, and the said
Sheriff is hereby required to keep a book at the jail, in which
he shall record the name of each prisoner committed to his
custody, and by what authority, the time when received and
the offense charged, and also the date of his discharge, which
book shall be open to the inspection of the County Commis-
sioners, State's Attorney and grand jury; should the Sheriff
neglect or refuse to keep said book or comply Avith any of the
duties which he is hereby required to perform, he shall be
liable to indictment and upon conviction be fined a sum not
exceeding one hundred ($100. 00) dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
