for exemption from taxation for Town purposes, of each
bona fide, active member of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire De-
partment, Inc., to the extent of One Thousand Dollars
($1, 000. 00).

CHAPTER 40.
(House Bill 99)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 63
of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Health", sub-title "Infectious Diseases—
Small-Pox", changing the time within which suit may be
brought by any city, town or county for recovery of expenses
incurred in maintaining certain patients in hospitals.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 63 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Health", sub-title "In-
fectious Diseases—Small-Pox", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows::

63. Any expenses incurred by the authorities of any city,
town or county in maintaining in a hospital, or in a temporary
place for the reception of the sick, a patient who is not a
pauper shall be deemed to be a debt due from such patient to
the authorities aforesaid, and may be recovered from him at
any time within three years after the discharge from such
hospital or place of reception, or from his estate, in the event
of his dying in such hospital.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1941.
