the exemption of stock and mutual insurance companies,
and agents, solicitors, brokers, and brokers' solicitors from
all taxes and fees, State, County and Municipal, for carry-
ing on their business or occupation, except those provided
by this Article.

CHAPTER 401.
(House Bill 38)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 67
of Article 48A of Flack's Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "General Provisions",
providing penalties for violation of the insurance laws and
of department rulings and orders.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 67 of Article 48A of Flack's Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title
"General Provisions", be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

67. Penalties. Any person or company violating any pro-
vision of any section of this Article for which no specific pen-
alty is therein provided, or any order or ruling of the Com-
missioner which he is authorized to make and promulgate,
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be sub-
ject to a fine of not more than one thousand dollars for
each and every such offense. Any person making any wilfully
false statement in any annual statement, report or other
written document required by any section of this Article
to be filed with the Commissioner under oath, or while
under oath administered by the Commissioner, Deputy
Commissioner or Examiner which they are authorized by this
Article to administer, at any investigation or hearing con-
ducted by said Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner or Ex-
aminer, which they are authorized to conduct, shall be deemed
to be guilty of perjury and shall be proceeded against and pun-
ished as provided by the statutes of this State in relation to
the crime of perjury.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1941.
