DO HEREBY CERTIFY, That at the General Election held in this
State on Tuesday, November 5, 1940, An Act, known as Chapter
363 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1939,
was submitted to the voters of Washington County for their
adoption or rejection, under the provisions of Article 16 of the
Constitution of the State, said Act being:
An Act to authorize and empower the Board of County
Commissioners of Washington County to borrow on the
faith and credit of the County, to an amount not to
exceed Four Hundred Thousand (f400, 000. 00) Dollars
and to issue and sell bonds therefor, the proceeds thereof
to be used for the erection, construction, equipping,
rebuilding and enlargement, repair, or remodeling of a
Court House Building for Washington County and/or
a Jail Building for Washington County, either on the
present site or a new site to be acquired; to provide for
the acquisition of such new site, and the sale of the
present site and building; and to provide for the pay-
ment of interest on said bonds and of the principal
thereof by the levy of taxes, and to authorize and em-
power said Board of County Commissioners of Wash-
ington County to make and enter into any agreements
as may be necessary or appropriate to secure the bene-
fits of an Act of the Congress of the United States of
America approved June 16, 1933, commonly known as
the "National Industrial Recovery Act", and any Acts
amendatory thereof, and any further Act or Joint Res-
olution of the Congress of the United States of America
to encourage public works.
AND i DO CERTIFY, That at said election 1, 865 votes were cast
in favor of the adoption of said Chapter 363 of the Acts of
1939, and 9, 052 votes were cast against the adoption of said
Act, in said County; and a majority being against the adop-
tion thereof, it was thereby rejected and repealed by the voters
of said County.
