County and if found guilty shall thereby automatically be re-
moved from office (if not already removed by the Mayor) and
shall be fined a sum not exceeding One Thousand ($1, 000. 00)
Dollars or imprisoned for a period not exceeding five years or
both in the discretion of the Court.

CONTINUITY OF TERMS OF ALL OFFICERS
SEC. 85. All officers heretofore or hereinafter provided for,
either by election or appointment, shall continue to hold, ex-
ercise and discharge the duties of their respective offices until
they shall be superseded under the provisions of this Charter,
and until their successors shall be duly qualified, and nothing
contained herein shall be construed to interfere with the con-
tinuity of the term or tenure of any of said officers; nor shall
a re-appointment of any of said officers be necessary in order
to secure the said continuity of their terms or tenure of office
unless otherwise provided.

VACANCIES IN OFFICE

SEC. 86. In the instance where any person elected or ap-
pointed to office shall fail to either take the prescribed oath
or file his approved bond (where bond is required) within a
period of twenty days after his appointment or election, or in
the event of death, resignation or removal from the City of any
officer elected or appointed, new nominations, a new election
or a new appointment under the same provisions and quali-
fications as in the instance of the original election or appoint-
ment shall be made to fill out the unexpired term thus occa-
sioned, providing that in the case of an elected officer the
Mayor and City Council then in office shall proceed to order a
new election to fill such vacancy, said election to be held after
not less than twenty days' notice by advertisement in the local
papers is given.

TAXES

SEC. 87. It shall be the duty of the City Treasurer as soon
as the annual levy of taxes is made on the second Monday in
September of each year and placed in his hands, to give notice
thereof in the newspapers published in the City, stating the
time after which no discount will be allowed on taxes, the time
from which taxes bear interest and warning all taxpayers of
their liability to be published as delinquent taxes and to have
their property sold unless the taxes for which they are charged
are paid as hereinafter set out. He shall also immediately after
the receipt of the levy as aforesaid make out a bill of each
taxpayer to which a similar notice shall be annexed and for-
ward the bill by mail or otherwise to the person or his agent
to whom taxes have been assessed.
