the Council, Collector of City Taxes and Treasurer, who
shall hold his office for a term of four years and until his
successor is elected and qualified. The said officer shall
receive a salary of Twenty-four Hundred Dollars per year;
shall perform all duties imposed upon him by law and the
ordinances of the City, and shall be called "Clerk of Salis-
bury". His term shall begin on the first day of July after
his election. For the purpose of performing his duties as
Collector of City Taxes and Treasurer the person elected
as Clerk of Salisbury shall devote his entire time and atten-
tion to the duties of his office and shall keep his office open
for the transaction of business from eight o'clock in the
morning until five o'clock in the afternoon every week-day
except legal holidays, and for the purpose of performing his
duties as Clerk to the Council he shall perform such duties
and be on duty at such times as the Council shall determine
upon. If any vacancy shall occur in the office of Clerk of
Salisbury by death, removal, resignation, failure to qualify
or otherwise the Mayor at the next regular meeting of the
Council shall appoint, subject to confirmation by a majority
of the Council, a person to fill such vacancy to serve for the
unexpired term and until his successor is duly elected and
qualified.

SEC. 2, And be it further enacted, That this Act is here-
by declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
being passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

(Senate Bill 261)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 233A of Article 18 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Queen Anne's
County", sub-title "Fire Companies", as said section
was enacted by Chapter 76 of the Acts of 1935, increas-
ing the appropriation to certain fire companies of Queen
Anne's County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 233A of Article 18 of the Code of
