contract or agreement theretofore entered into by and between
any municipality and any Federal agency, no municipality
shall borrow any money or issue any bonds pursuant to the
provisions of this sub-title after June 1, 1943. It is the
purpose of this sub-title to enable municipalities to secure
the benefits of any agency of the Federal Government engaged
in a works program, to encourage public works, to reduce un-
employment and thereby to assist in the national recovery and
promote the public welfare, and to these ends municipalities
shall hare power to do all things necessary or convenient to
carry out said purpose in addition to the express powers con-
ferred in this sub-title; this sub-title is remedial in nature
and the powers hereby granted shall be liberally construed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1941.

CHAPTER 799.

(House Bill 741)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 895
of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City
(1938 Edition—being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland—1930 Edition), title "Baltimore City",
sub-title "Police Examiners", relating to the number of
policewomen in Baltimore City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 895 of the Charter and Public Local Laws
of Baltimore City (1938 Edition—being Article 4 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland—1930 Edition), title "Balti-
more City", sub-title "Police Examiners", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

895. Not more than six policewomen shall be appointed
tinder authority of this Act for police duty.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1941.
