CHAPTER 622.

(House Bill 28)

AN ACT to add seven new sections to Article 27 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments", to be under sub-title "Pistols", said new
sections to be known as Sections 531A to 531G, inclusive!,
and to follow immediately after Section 531 of said Article,
relating to the sale, identification marks and possession of
pistols.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That seven new sections be and they are hereby added
to Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edi-
tion), title "Crimes and Punishments", to be under sub-title
"Pistols", said new sections to be known as Sections 531A to
531Gr, inclusive, to follow immediately after Section 531 of
said Article, and to read as follows:

531 A. As used in this sub-title—

(1) The term "person" includes an individual, partnership,
association or corporation.

(2) The term "pistol or revolver" as used in this sub-title
means any firearm with barrel less than twelve inches in
length.

(3) The term "dealer" means any person engaged in the
business of selling firearms at wholesale or retail, or any
person engaged in the business of repairing such firearms.

(4) The term "crime of violence" means murder, man-
slaughter, rape, mayhem, kidnaping, burglary, housebreaking;
assault with intent to kill, commit rape, or rob; assault with a
dangerous weapon, or assault with intent to commit any
offense punishable by imprisonment for more than one year.

(5) The term "fugitive from justice" means any person who
has fled from a sheriff or other peace officer within this State,
or who has fled from any State, Territory or the District of
Columbia, or possession of the United States, to avoid prose-
cution for a crime of violence or to avoid giving testimony in
any criminal proceeding.

531B. A true record shall be made by each dealer in a book
kept for the purpose, the form of which shall be prescribed by
the Secretary of State, of all pistols or revolvers sold, trans-
ferred or otherwise disposed of at wholesale or retail, which
said record shall contain the date of sale, the caliber, make,
model and manufacturer's number of the weapon, to which
shall be added the name and address of the purchaser. Such
