CHAPTER 614.
(House Bill 689)

AN ACT adding a new section to Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "Hyattsville", said new section to be
known as Section 504A, authorizing The Mayor and Com-
mon Council of Hyattsville to re-divide the territory of the
said town in four new wards.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted l)y the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be, and the same is hereby, added to
Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Prince George's County", sub-title "Hyattsville", said new
section to be known as Section 504A, to follow immediately
after Section 504 of said Article and to read as follows:

504A. The Mayor and Common Council of Hyattsville shall
have the power to re-divide all the territory of The Mayor and
Common Council of Hyattsville into four new wards, as nearly
equal to each other in proportions of area and population as
shall be practicable, after notice thereof and opportunity for
public hearings as The Mayor and Common Council shall pro-
vide and direct; each ward shall have two Councilmen, to be
qualified, nominated and elected and to have the same powers,
duties and obligations as now provided by law; provided,
that such redivision of wards shall not take effect until April
1, 1943, and in April, 1943, there shall be a general registra-
tion in each ward of the said town. The four Councilmen
elected, as provided by law, in May, 1942, shall hold office for
a term expiring at the first regular meeting of said Mayor
and Common Council in May, 1943. At the general election
in May, 1943, there shall be elected two councilmen for each
of the four new wards, one to hold office for a term of one
year, to expire at the first regular meeting of the said Mayor
and Common Council in May, 1944, and one councilman to
hold office for a term of two years, to expire at the first reg-
ular meeting of the Mayor and Common Council in May, 1945,
and upon the expiration of their respective terms, their suc-
cessors shall be elected for the term of two years each as now
provided by law. All councilmen elected under the provisions
of this section shall possess all of the qualifications, and have
all of the powers and obligations of councilmen of said town
as now provided by law, and any vacancies which may occur
among such councilmen shall be filled as now provided by
law. The Mayor and Common Council of Hyattsville shall
also have the power, at any time after such division of wards
after notice thereof and opportunity for public hearings a&
