Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title "Fees of Officers, "
subtitle "Justices of the Peace, " and Sections 716, 717,
719 and 720 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1938 Edition), title "Baltimore City, " sub-
title "Justices of the Peace and Constables" and Section
756 of said Article 4, subtitle "Landlord and Tenant, " be
and the same are hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That fifteen new
sections be and they are hereby added to Article 4 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1938 Edition),
title "Baltimore City, " subtitle "Justices of the Peace and
Constables, " said new sections to be known as Sections
716 to 716N, inclusive, to be under a new subheading
"Judges of the People's Court, " to follow immediately
after Section 715 of said Article 4 and to read as follows:

716. In addition to the Justices of the Peace provided
for in Sections 712 and 713 of this Article, there shall be
appointed by the Governor, by and with the advice and
consent of the Senate, from the City of Baltimore, at large,
an additional Justice of the Peace to be known as the
Chief Judge of the People's Court of Baltimore City and
two additional Justices of the Peace to be known as Asso-
ciate Judges of the People's Court of Baltimore City. In
the event of the adoption of a Constitutional Amendment
providing for a People's Court for Baltimore City, this
section shall thereupon be inoperative and no subsequent
appointments shall thereafter be made pursuant thereto.

716A. The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore City
shall pay to the Chief Judge of the People's Court a salary
of $6, 500 per annum, payable monthly, and to each of the
Associate Judges of the People's Court, a salary of $6, 000
per annum, payable monthly, and none of said Judges shall
receive any other compensation or fees whatever for their
services hereunder. Each of said Judges shall devote to
his duties as Judge a regular session, from 9: 80 A. M. until
4 P. M. on every day except Sundays and legal holidays
and Saturday afternoons after 12: 30 P. M., and such other
sessions at such times as the Chief Judge deems necessary
or advisable, during such eleven months in each year as
the Chief Judge shall assign. The Chief Judge shall
make such assignments in such manner as to provide such
regular sessions for the transaction of business, and such
other sessions as he shall prescribe, throughout the entire
year. All such sessions shall be held at such place as the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore City shall provide.
