1708 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Governor be and he is hereby requested to include in his sup-
plemental budget for 1940-41 an appropriation to redecorate
and furnish the Old Senate Chamber and so much of the room
now occupied by the Department of Legislative Reference as
is not necessary for its work in order to convert said rooms
into lounges and waiting rooms for the use of the members of
the General Assembly and other persons.

(House Joint Resolution 24)
A Joint Resolution authorizing and requesting the Governor
of Maryland to designate June 12, 1939, as "Baseball Cen-
tennial Day" in honor of the one hundredth anniversary of
the invention of the game of baseball.
WHEREAS, On June 12, 1839, in Cooperstown, New York,
General Abner Doubleday "invented" the game of baseball;
and
WHEREAS, Baseball has for many decades been the favorite
sport and pastime of the citizens of Maryland, of all ages,
and has a great appeal not only to the boys and men, but also
to the girls and women of this State; and
WHEREAS, In the early days of the National Baseball League,
the team representing Baltimore, now known as the "Old
Orioles", brought fame and much favorable publicity to the
State; and
WHEREAS, Many natives and residents of Maryland have
become proficient and prominent in playing the game of base-
ball, and have caused the State of Maryland to become a
leader in interest and participation in this sport; and
WHEREAS, It is altogether suitable and proper that the One
Hundredth Anniversary of baseball should be honored and
celebrated by the citizens of Maryland by suitable observance
of the day and commemoration of the game; now, therefore,
be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Governor of Maryland be and he is hereby authorized and
requested to designate June 12, 1939, to be "Baseball Gen-
