Middletown of all citizens of twenty-one years of age or over
who have resided within said corporate limits for a period of
one year next preceding an election and who are citizens of
the United States, and such registration shall be essential to
the right to vote at any election held under the Charter of
the Town of Middletown. The Burgess and Commissioners
shall annually, on or before fourteen days prior to the first
Monday of April of each election year, appoint two persons to
act as officers of said registration, who sit as officers of
registration at such places in said town as may be designated
by the said Burgess and Commissioners, and on the fifth day
next preceding the first Monday in April in each election year
the said officers of registration shall sit not less than eight
hours, from 12 M. to 8. 00 P. M., and ten days public notice of
said sitting and the place thereof shall be given by advertise-
ment published in the Valley Register, a newspaper published
in Middletown, or any other newspaper published therein, and
in the event of there being no newspaper published, by posting
said notice in ten public places of business in the town, and
after causing the registration of the duly qualified voters,
they shall return said lists to the Burgess and Commissioners
of Middletown, the registration to indicate the full name of
the voter, the date of birth, date of registration and the signa-
ture of the voter. Before said officers shall sit for this pur-
pose, they shall go before a duly qualified Notary Public or a
Justice of the Peace, and make oath in due form of law that
they will permit the registration of such persons as are en-
titled under the provisions of this Act to be registered voters
of Middletown. In the year 1940, the first registration year,
said officers of registration shall sit on the third and fourth
Mondays of March for a period of eight hours from 1. 2 M. to
8. 00 P. M. in addition to the regular time hereinbefore pro-
vided.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1939.
