1480 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 708

of Baltimore", sub-title "Hackney Carriages", the said sections
as amended to be under the sub-title "Taxicabs", be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

374. The word "taxicab" when used in this sub-title shall
mean a taxicab as defined in Section 361 of Article 23 of the
Annotated Code of the Public General Laws of Maryland.

375. A schedule of the lawfully established rates of fare to
be collected from passengers shall be posted, in a conspicuous
place, in every taxicab. Any owner, driver, chauffeur or person
having in charge any taxicab as aforesaid, who shall omit,
neglect or refuse to comply with the directions herein con-
tained, shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of ten
dollars.

376. Every driver, chauffeur of or person having in charge
any taxicab who shall refuse or fail when requested by any
person using such taxicab or applying for the use of it, to in-
form such person as to the true number thereof or the correct
amount of the rate of fare authorized to be charged for the
use of it, or shall wilfully mislead, misconvey or insult by
abusive or indecent and approbrious language any passenger
whom he shall have in his care for conveyance in the vehicle or
taxicab of which he is driver, chauffeur or person having
charge thereof, shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine
not exceeding twenty dollars.

377. Any driver, chauffeur of or person having in charge
any taxicab who shall ask, charge, demand or receive more
than the lawfully established rates of fare from any passenger
or passengers shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine not
exceeding fifty dollars, or imprisonment in jail for a period
not exceeding six months nor less than thirty days, or both
such fine and imprisonment; and any passenger or passengers
who shall refuse to pay or attempt to avoid payment of the
lawfully established rates of fare shall be guilty of a misde-
meanor, and shall, upon conviction, forfeit and pay a fine of
not exceeding fifty dollars.

378. No driver, chauffeur of or person having charge of any
taxicab shall take up or carry any passengers after it has been
occupied, engaged or hired by any prior passenger until such
prior passenger shall have discharged said vehicle or taxicab,
without the request of such prior passenger, and every person
having charge of a taxicab shall, immediately after delivering
any passenger, search said vehicle or taxicab for any property
which may have been left therein, and any property found
therein by any person having charge of any taxicab, and not
