CHAPTER 694.
(House Bill 753)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 7 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Car-
roll County", sub-title "County Commissioners", said new
section to be known as Section 45A and to follow imme-
diately after Section 45 of said Article, authorizing the
County Commissioners of Carroll County to employ a Special
Police Officer for said county, and fixing the compensation,
powers and jurisdiction of said officer.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 7
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Carroll County", sub-title "County Commissioners", said
new section to be known as Section 45A, to follow immediately
after Section 45 of said Article, and to read as follows:
45A. The County Commissioners of Carroll County are
hereby authorized and empowered to employ a competent man
to serve as Special Police Officer of Carroll County at a salary
to be fixed by said County Commissioners, payable monthly,
the man so appointed to be capable of doing finger print and
identification, criminal investigation and detective work, and
to be sworn in by and perform his duties under the direction
and supervision of the County Commissioners, in cooperation
with the State's Attorney for Carroll County. The said Special
Police Officer shall have and exercise all the powers and juris-
diction of the regular law enforcement officers within the
limits and confines of said Carroll County. If the said County
Commissioners, in their discretion, shall appoint a Special
Police Officer, they may designate him to act as Inspector for
the Board of License Commissioners, with all the powers which
Inspectors of Boards of License Commissioners have under the
general law. The County Commissioners shall pay in addition
to the salary aforesaid the necessary expenses, not exceeding
however twenty-five dollars ($25. 00) per month, incurred by
Special Officer in the performance of his official duties, and
shall levy for the same as general expenses of the county. All
bills for such expenses of said officer must be verified by his
affidavit and presented direct to the County Commissioners on
forms in use by them, and any false swearing in such affidavit
shall be deemed perjury and be punished as such.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1939.
