AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Sections
70 and 71 of Article 10 of Flack's Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester County",
sub-title "Police Commissioners", as enacted by Sections
60C and 60D of Chapter 694 of the Acts of the General As-
sembly of Maryland, 1912, and as amended, relative to va-
cancies in the police force of the City of Cambridge, exami-
nations therefor, appointments thereto, and salaries and
wages therefor.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 70 and 71 of Article 10 of Flack's Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dor-
chester County", sub-title "Police Commissioners", as enacted
by Sections 60C and 60D of Chapter 694 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, 1912, and as amended, where-
in, in Section 70, it is provided that an applicant, before being
appointed to the police force of the City of Cambridge, be re-
quired to pass a physical and mental examination, and where-
in, in Section 71, is provided the length of time of appoint-
ment, salaries therefor, and number of policemen to be ap-
pointed, be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments to read as follows:
70. On the fifteenth day of August, 1912, and as often there-
after as there may be a vacancy to be filled in the police force,
hereinafter provided for, the said board shall hold a prelimi-
nary examination at the City Hall of applicants for policeman.
Notice of any and all preliminary examinations for police-
man shall be given in at least two newspapers published in the
City of Cambridge, at least ten days before such examina-
tion; said notice shall state the time of said examination and
the requirements for policeman. Every applicant for police-
man must be of good moral character, not addicted to the use
of alcoholic liquors or drinks in any form, must be at least five
feet eight inches in height, must weigh not less than one hun-
dred and fifty pounds, and not more than two hundred
and fifty pounds, must be between the ages of twenty-
five and forty years, and must be able to read and write
a legible hand, and show a good knowledge of the rules of the
said Board of Police Commissioners and of the ordinances of
Cambridge. All examinations for policemen must be in writ-
ing and the examination papers shall be preserved by said
board, subject to inspection by any voter of the City of Cam-
