under the words "Against Improvement of Streets Amend-
ments, " with a square after said words, in each case, for the
X mark of the voters, and the voters may vote. thereon by
an X mark after his choice.

In the event that at such election the majority of ballots
voted in regard to the provisions of this Act shall be properly
marked in the square after the words "For Improvement of
Streets Amendments, " then this Act shall be in full force and
effect, but in the event that the majority of ballots voted shall
be properly marked in the square after the words "Against
Improvement of Streets Amendments, " then this Act shall be
null and void, except as hereinafter provided.

In the event that a majority of votes cast at the election pro-
vided by this Act shall be against the improvement of street
amendments and against the provisions of this Act, then the
Mayor and Common Council of Hyattsville, in its discretion,
may submit the same question in the same manner and under
this Act to the qualified voters of said town at the next suc-
ceeding general election of said town, the result of such elec-
tion to be determined by the provisions of this Act.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect from the
date of its passage.

CHAPTER 230.

AN ACT authorizing and empowering the judges of the Cir-
cuit Court for Prince George's County to appoint a stenog-
rapher for the Grand Jury of Prince George's County, who,
when not so engaged, shall be the official stenographer for
the State's Attorney for Prince George's County, and who
may be likewise subject to call by the Circuit Court for said
county for court service at such times as not in active service
of the Grand Jury or the State's Attorney; and providing
for the compensation of said stenographer.
