fees of their offices; provided, however, that said sum shall in
no event exceed three hundred dollars ($300. 00).
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1931.

CHAPTER 537.
AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners of Carroll
County to borrow on the faith and credit of Carroll County
the sum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100, 000. 00)
and to issue notes therefor, the proceeds thereof to be used
for such public improvements as said County Commissioners
shall deem necessary, to provide a tax for the payment of the
interest on said notes and their redemption, directing the
mode of spending the money so borrowed.
WHEREAS, Due to present demands of public improvements'
in Carroll County and because of the anticipated slowness of
the collection of taxes for the next tax year it is desirable and
to the interest of the said County Commissioners for Carroll
County to be authorized to borrow not more than one hundred
thousand dollars ($100, 000. 00) to meet these necessary de-
mands.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County Commissioners of Carroll County
be and it is hereby authorized and empowered to borrow one
hundred thousand dollars ($100, 000. 00) and to issue notes
therefor bearing interest, payable semi-annually, said loan and
the interest thereon being exempt from all State, county and
municipal taxation, whether laid directly or indirectly, in the
hands of any corporation or individual holder thereof.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Carroll County is hereby authorized and directed
to have notes prepared in good and sufficient form in the aggre-
gate of one hundred thousand dollars ($100, 000. 00), bearing
date the first day of September, 1931, in the sum of ten thou-
sand dollars ($10, 000. 00) each; said notes shall be numbered
consecutively from one to ten, both inclusive, and be signed
by the president of the Board of County Commissioners and
countersigned by the county treasurer with the seal of the
